White Weddings and shoe coveting...

So my mom got married on saturday! Which was made more exciting by the ridiculous snow we've had!

The lucky man was Tim (the guy to the side of the wheelchair).

So for the wedding I made about 130 cupcakes (the night before....)
They ended up being decorated with fresh strawberries but i was unable to take a photo before they were taken away...

and my dress! (the day before....)
Because there is nothing like a good old panic right??!
I bought new shoes for the event! (any excuse)
These wonderful wedge rubber Melissa brogues! eeeeeeeee!
Despite the fact I was wearing them for 12hrs, they were moderatly comfortable!

But now I want, no, NEED these:
Damn melissa shoes....*saves pennies*
all in all it was a wonderful wedding and I didn't die of hypothemia or anything, exciting!
Hopefully My mom and Tim are going to have a good long marrage and maybe buy me melissa shoes for xmas?? Please? :)

Look yourself in the eyes.

But these raindrops burn
As they fall on my cheeks.
Because it isn't the sky
That's crying,
And there are no puddles on the floor,
Only mirrors in which i see my faults.

#3 Cooking post: Plain Sponge cake with strawberries and Butter icing.

Sponge cake with strawberries, strawberry jam and butter icing.

To make a decent cake I follow one rule:
Add equal parts butter, sugar and flour. Then add eggs until it has a smooth consistancy but doesn't pour like soup.
For this particular cake I used:
  1. 8oz of self-raising flour.
  2. 6oz of sugar ~(this cake has alot of icing and jam in the middle so i used less sugar than if it was un-iced)
  3. 6oz of butter (I used less butter because it's spreadable butter which is softer and you don't need as much as if you used a block of butter...)
  4. Three large free-range eggs.
  • Mix everything in a bowl until smooth then pour into two greased tins.
  • Bake for 15-20 mins (until it is brown and bouncy to touch!) at 180degrees.
  • Take both from their tins (used a knife to ply them out if they stuck to the tin at all) and leave one to cool.

  • Take the other one and apply a thin layer of jam to the top.
  • Then I added a layer of sliced strawberries before placing the top layer of cake above it.

  • Mix a small box (yes, the whole box...) of icing sugar with three heaped tablespoons of butter (i used spreadable butter)
  • When all is mixed to form a thick batter, add water (about four tablespoons) until it is thin enough to spread with a knife.
  • (you might want to put some aside before adding the water because it was too thin to pipe...)
  • Take your cake and add big drops of icing over the top then spread with the back of a spoon.
  • If the cake crumbles under the icing, add more icing.
  • do the same with the sides by applying it with the back of the spoon.
  • Slice strawberries and put them around the edges
  • use a piping gun or bag to add a circle of decorative icing or drops of icing.
  • Add more strawberries!

The whole thing took about an hour but it's worth it!

#2 Cooking post: Stuffed mushrooms with rocket salad.

Stuffed mushrooms with rocket and spinach salad with a lemon and balsalmic vinegar dressing and garlic new potatoes.
Cooking time: 20mins.
Preparing time: about 15mins?

  • Prepare mushrooms (some people peel them, pick out the stalk etc.)
  • Place raw,underside-up,on a tin-foil covered tray.
  • mix in a bowl:
  1. Adiquet cheese (for six mushrooms, about two big handfuls when grated)
  2. (I used mature cheddar.)
  3. Two teaspoons of parmasan cheese.
  4. Three tablespoons of wholegrain mustard.
  • Put half a teaspoon of butter in the middle of each mushroom underside.
  • add a few spoons of the mixture to each mushroom and spread over the underside.
  • Cover all mushrooms with a loose layer of tinfoil and bake at 180 degrees for 15mins.

After 15mins:

  • Remove from oven and remove top tinfoil.
  • Place under a grill for 5mins until cheese is brown.
  • Optional! Wrap warm mushrooms in parma-ham sheets!

  1. A pre-mixed bag of rocket, water-cress and spinage.
  2. An advacado
  3. Cucumber, cubed.
  4. Four chopped spring onions.
  5. Chopped tomatoes.
  • Add a squeese of lemon (about five tablespoons)
  • Add a drizzle of balsalmic vinegar.
  • Mix!
  • Wash, chop and boil!
  • (until soft, I cook them in their skins also)
  • Leave to cool a little then mix with three tablespoons of butter and three cloves of garlic, crushed.

Really easy and yummy! Could have done with perhaps double the serving haha...

#1 Cooking Post - Sushi and Inari dinner.

Today I did a slight Halloween/Autumn spin on a Japanese meal!

Wasabi (bought in a tube)

Inari pouches (pre-soaked) with seasoning flakes and rice wine vinegar (came all in a packet..)

Aubergine fried in oil and soy sauce with toasted sesame seeds

cucumber, spring onion and sweetcorn sushi
(Nori bought flat, sushi rice cooked in wine vinegar again)

Pumpkin: Cooked in bread-crumbs, sugar, sesame seeds and wine vinegar.

Poor pumpkin!
Also served satay chicken cooked by robyn (I can't cook meat at all)
All in all a sucessful meal, we did finish all of it so can't have been that bad!
Whole thing cost £20 and fed seven people.
If i could change anything i would have baked the pumpkin or boiled then fried it in cubes.

Nine trains but i'd do it again to see you guys.

Spent two days in Birmingham with the wonderful Amelie.
Had a really relaxing time up there.
We had lunch at a crepe/pancake cafe (cute no?)
And look at the leaves! Autumn really does rock.
I also went to Bristol and met up with Pippa and then to Taunton to see my (boyfriend) Paul and my mommy who's planning her winter wedding.
I think i forget how nice it is to catch up with friends even if it means getting a total of 9 trains in four days and being shattered by the end of it.
Oh and of course it was good to come home to the cult house and see everyone again even after four days of being away.
And having sebastian (The cat) sleep on my bed.

A Tea Party and the Birth of Cult25

You ask what students do these days?
Well, look no further for I am about to give you the horrifying answers.

We throw Tea parties and start cults.
yes indeed.
Not just any Tea parties, but a seven course Dessert-feast.

Rundown of the food:
  • Tia Maria hot-chocolate with whipped cream
  • Clotted cream and strawberry jam fairy cakes
  • Stir-fry veg and rice with spring rolls
  • Frozen peach yogurt in a teacup
  • Blamange? In Raspberry and Strawberry
  • Christmas pudding
  • Lemon and white chocolate cheesecake
We decided it was about time to start a cult.
We do not worship anyone, or kill people (well...), but we do make really good cake.

After our Tea Party we took a walk down to the beach where we burned candles and chanted to Satan (duhh)...
Interested in joining us?
We will soon have a blog up and running.
It's not ready quite yet but it will be soon so don't lose hope.
We do accept body parts and bribes to join.

Joints and Limbs

Yesterday I went to London and visited two museums,
The first was Hunterians museum, which is a college surgical museum.
and the other was Pollocks toy museum.

It seems like an odd mix (dolls and severed limbs and fetus babies suspended in formaldehyde...)
But both fit my uni project of dolls, joints, limbs and deformity.
fetus babies in jars, yep...fucked up...
But to cheer you up:
just me then...

They're watching you in your sleep...

Mad as a March Hare!

I have a logo, woo how exciting, and despite being a clothing design student i can't say the hare speaks much for myself (though mad as a march hare comes to mind)...

In other news, i baked a pumpkin, cashew, honey and mushroom tart last night.
TERRIBLY EXCITED about pumpkins being in season again!

Images will follow.

Homeo and manliette - A tale of two wardrobes

Two wardrobes, divided by gender, brought together in passion(for fashion) by young Homeo and Manliette...
er, well actually, switching wardrobes for the evening seemed to be the most logical solution for life.

It was fate.

A true tale people.

a true tale.......

An inspector calls

"oh what a lovely home you have dear"
Spoke the cat.
"thank you, what a charming personallity you have"
I replied as the cat sat upon my lap with grace, purring away.
"oh why thank you dear, though i must tell you, i am not fond of tuna..."
So once the dish was placed to the ground, the cat turned tail and vanished into the warm afternoon.
I was hopeful he'd come again, though i do wonder his intentions, coming in, looking around, acting elequent.
Then leaving.

Ok, so perhaps he wasn't really an inspector, but he was a ridiculously freindly cat.

I moved into my student house eight days ago, and currently we do not have the internet, so it will be a while till i can start my blogging again.

Yes... i have plans!

This blog is going to gain a purpose, there will be weekly baking, styling and sewing tutorials!

It's rather annoying how i would like to get this started now...but all in due time.

and just because it has to happen, 30 more cupcakes.

Bringing my summer total to 120 ^__^

Tweedle Dum Tweedle Dee, but which is her and which one me?

So for a friends Alice in Wonderland themed birthday party, the wonderful Ame and I decided to (on a small primark budget!) go as Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee! Everyone put so much effort in!
We had alot of fun confusing the wonderful idiots over on with webcam fuckery.

I made cupcakes.
I am ashamed to say I was sober all night, haha but had just as much fun as the drunk did!

Bristol Zoo Lolita meet! A late post....

Better late than never?
So a few weeks ago i went to my 3rd-ish lolita meet-up, it was held at bristol zoo so yay for seeing meerkats and bats and other cool animals ^_^
As you can see, we are all meerkats now. This is what I wore, I wanted to put a little 50's spin on lolita because I guess it mixes in more with my personal style.
Not particually flattering but it could be
Brogues with lolita = love.
Make up was dead by then due to the rain.
Butt shot!
Amelie looking mighty fine inside a ship window! I had such a wonderful day! Everyone was super friendly and even though it rained alot it was still a laugh.
I'm glad everyone put so much effort into getting (and baking) food and looked so lovely!
I need to go to more lolita meets.
Which means buying more lolita clothing, haha.

Hardore Tea

Because regular sugar is not hardcore enough.

For the record it taisted ok for about two sips, then you get a hit of food colouring.

No sugar in the house though.

So had to be done.

Just another normal day with Amelie over and tea ^^

Teacup Tattoos, eyebrows and glass teacups

I need one of these for my gin and tonic.
I can't think of a better way to get smashed than with a glass teacup!
I mean in an ideal world i'd have a set of them and a glass teapot to mix cocktails in!
Maybe for christmas? :) Anyways, a few days ago i went and got my three teacup tattoos!
I got them done in Skin art tattoo studio in Taunton (somerset)
Mark and Rob are the two tattoo artists there, mark did the umbrella two years ago with awesome shading.
This time i had Rob to do the cups! I was very happy with how they were done, the colours used are very vivid and once i have the rest of the sleeve done they are going to look epic ^.^
This is the only angle where all three can be seen, but once they have healed i will get close up shots of them.
Whilst being tattooed i was offered (and accepted) tea and got to chat to rob and mike?? (who's started an apprentiship) So it was a great experience and i didn't feel nervous at all.
Which is a hugeee plus.
Hahahaha, so recently i have been playing with my hair more and curling my fringe, meaning i can (for like the first time in yearrrs) see my eyebrows! so i buckled down and watched shitloads of tutorials on eyebrow shape :p
and i finally have decent eyebrows +facial emotion! hahaha
Sad eyebrows! mwahaha
Also i stopped wearing pencil eyeliner (both black and white) Just using a thin line of liquid on my top eyelids.
It looks much tidier and actually makes my face look less tired :p haha.
