White Weddings and shoe coveting...

So my mom got married on saturday! Which was made more exciting by the ridiculous snow we've had!

The lucky man was Tim (the guy to the side of the wheelchair).

So for the wedding I made about 130 cupcakes (the night before....)
They ended up being decorated with fresh strawberries but i was unable to take a photo before they were taken away...

and my dress! (the day before....)
Because there is nothing like a good old panic right??!
I bought new shoes for the event! (any excuse)
These wonderful wedge rubber Melissa brogues! eeeeeeeee!
Despite the fact I was wearing them for 12hrs, they were moderatly comfortable!

But now I want, no, NEED these:
Damn melissa shoes....*saves pennies*
all in all it was a wonderful wedding and I didn't die of hypothemia or anything, exciting!
Hopefully My mom and Tim are going to have a good long marrage and maybe buy me melissa shoes for xmas?? Please? :)

#3 Cooking post: Plain Sponge cake with strawberries and Butter icing.

Sponge cake with strawberries, strawberry jam and butter icing.

To make a decent cake I follow one rule:
Add equal parts butter, sugar and flour. Then add eggs until it has a smooth consistancy but doesn't pour like soup.
For this particular cake I used:
Cake:
  1. 8oz of self-raising flour.
  2. 6oz of sugar ~(this cake has alot of icing and jam in the middle so i used less sugar than if it was un-iced)
  3. 6oz of butter (I used less butter because it's spreadable butter which is softer and you don't need as much as if you used a block of butter...)
  4. Three large free-range eggs.
  • Mix everything in a bowl until smooth then pour into two greased tins.
  • Bake for 15-20 mins (until it is brown and bouncy to touch!) at 180degrees.
  • Take both from their tins (used a knife to ply them out if they stuck to the tin at all) and leave one to cool.

Filling:

  • Take the other one and apply a thin layer of jam to the top.
  • Then I added a layer of sliced strawberries before placing the top layer of cake above it.

Topping:

  • Mix a small box (yes, the whole box...) of icing sugar with three heaped tablespoons of butter (i used spreadable butter)
  • When all is mixed to form a thick batter, add water (about four tablespoons) until it is thin enough to spread with a knife.
  • (you might want to put some aside before adding the water because it was too thin to pipe...)
  • Take your cake and add big drops of icing over the top then spread with the back of a spoon.
  • If the cake crumbles under the icing, add more icing.
  • do the same with the sides by applying it with the back of the spoon.
  • Slice strawberries and put them around the edges
  • use a piping gun or bag to add a circle of decorative icing or drops of icing.
  • Add more strawberries!

The whole thing took about an hour but it's worth it!

A Tea Party and the Birth of Cult25

You ask what students do these days?
Well, look no further for I am about to give you the horrifying answers.

We throw Tea parties and start cults.
yes indeed.
Not just any Tea parties, but a seven course Dessert-feast.

Rundown of the food:
  • Tia Maria hot-chocolate with whipped cream
  • Clotted cream and strawberry jam fairy cakes
  • Stir-fry veg and rice with spring rolls
  • Frozen peach yogurt in a teacup
  • Blamange? In Raspberry and Strawberry
  • Christmas pudding
  • Lemon and white chocolate cheesecake
The Birth of CULTTWENTYFIVE
We decided it was about time to start a cult.
We do not worship anyone, or kill people (well...), but we do make really good cake.

After our Tea Party we took a walk down to the beach where we burned candles and chanted to Satan (duhh)...
Interested in joining us?
We will soon have a blog up and running.
It's not ready quite yet but it will be soon so don't lose hope.
We do accept body parts and bribes to join.

Mad as a March Hare!

I have a logo, woo how exciting, and despite being a clothing design student i can't say the hare speaks much for myself (though mad as a march hare comes to mind)...

In other news, i baked a pumpkin, cashew, honey and mushroom tart last night.
TERRIBLY EXCITED about pumpkins being in season again!
yay!

Images will follow.
mwahahaha....

An inspector calls

"oh what a lovely home you have dear"
Spoke the cat.
"thank you, what a charming personallity you have"
I replied as the cat sat upon my lap with grace, purring away.
"oh why thank you dear, though i must tell you, i am not fond of tuna..."
So once the dish was placed to the ground, the cat turned tail and vanished into the warm afternoon.
I was hopeful he'd come again, though i do wonder his intentions, coming in, looking around, acting elequent.
Then leaving.

Ok, so perhaps he wasn't really an inspector, but he was a ridiculously freindly cat.

I moved into my student house eight days ago, and currently we do not have the internet, so it will be a while till i can start my blogging again.

Plans!

Yes... i have plans!

This blog is going to gain a purpose, there will be weekly baking, styling and sewing tutorials!

It's rather annoying how i would like to get this started now...but all in due time.

and just because it has to happen, 30 more cupcakes.

Bringing my summer total to 120 ^__^

Tweedle Dum Tweedle Dee, but which is her and which one me?

So for a friends Alice in Wonderland themed birthday party, the wonderful Ame and I decided to (on a small primark budget!) go as Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee! Everyone put so much effort in!
We had alot of fun confusing the wonderful idiots over on Omegle.com with webcam fuckery.

And OBVIOUSLY
I made cupcakes.
I am ashamed to say I was sober all night, haha but had just as much fun as the drunk did!

Bristol Zoo Lolita meet! A late post....

Better late than never?
So a few weeks ago i went to my 3rd-ish lolita meet-up, it was held at bristol zoo so yay for seeing meerkats and bats and other cool animals ^_^
As you can see, we are all meerkats now. This is what I wore, I wanted to put a little 50's spin on lolita because I guess it mixes in more with my personal style.
Not particually flattering but it could be worse...lol.
Brogues with lolita = love.
Make up was dead by then due to the rain.
Butt shot!
Amelie looking mighty fine inside a ship window! I had such a wonderful day! Everyone was super friendly and even though it rained alot it was still a laugh.
I'm glad everyone put so much effort into getting (and baking) food and looked so lovely!
I need to go to more lolita meets.
Which means buying more lolita clothing, haha.

Ok ok....I think i'm obsessed with cupcakes...hehe
The blue cupcakes have fresh blueberries in the batter and sugar sprinkles on the butter icing.
The pink ones are plain but with edible glitter sprinked on top of the pink butter icing!
I have been baking so much since i have been home from uni
(because there is actually an oven here!)
This is not a food blog (or maybe it is o.O) but i just love to cook!!!
These particular cupcakes are for tomorrows lolita meet-up in bristol! So i hope they taist good ^_^ x
I cooked lunch for my mom today also, a spicy cream of vegtable soup with chives.
haha my life is so exciting...

Been eating the butter icing, so a little hyper ^.^

Blueberry Cupcakes and Sewing.

So today I decided to make cupcakes again (can you tell I like them yet??? lol)

They are blueberry cupcakes with fresh blueberries in the cake mix and crushed blueberries mixed into the butter icing. Topped with white chocolate stars!
My mom's town has a cake decorating shop! so i got the polkadot cake paper cups there!
As well as cake glitter but i am saving that!

Also I have been sewing the last few days, this is a dress i'm making for my mom, i traced the pattern from another of her dresses that she likes the fit of.
I also made this dress for me by tracing a pattern from a previous dress i know fits well.
(it also has shirring at the back)

(the fabric was a tablecloth!!! hahaha)

Anyways, that is all!

I MADE A PIE

I MADE A PIE!

It's ridiculous how doing such a small thing can make you feel so proud!

I know it's scruffy, hehe, but i love it.

The herbs were fresh from the garden, i made the pastry myself, and my mom and I podded the peas, hehe.

It's a vegtable pie with onion and rosemary savory sauce, cashews and pine nuts.
And yes it was yummy ^.^
